Brick and Mortar Casinos Change Tune
Times have certainly changed. As the economy
struggles to recover from it worst since the Great Depression, brick and
mortar casinos are getting a harsh reminder that we are living in the 21st
Century. While brick and mortar online casinos are struggling to make
ends meet, online casinos are seeing growth and enormous profits. The
overhead for maintaining brick and mortar casinos dwarf the relatively
modest costs of maintaining the virtual world of online casinos.
Online casinos are starting to sense that long
established brick and mortar casinos may be changing there perspective
on Internet gambling and online casinos. Up until this point the two
gambling formats were seen as direct competition. Past policy for brick
and mortar casino companies was to stand in opposition of any
legislation that might regulate online casinos. The need to pull
themselves out of the red may be changing the hearts and minds of land
based casino operators.
“Land casinos are unable to come up with the credit
needed to continue their excessive building sprees, and budget-conscious
customers are no longer traveling to fill their hotel rooms,” said
Sherman Bradley, senior gaming analyst for Online Casino Advisory.
“Using their brand power at online gambling sites
is a potential way for them to bring financial health back to their
companies.”
Now that President-Elect Barack Obama is preparing to
take office, further encouraging the Democratic majority in Congress to
review bills for the regulation and legalization of online casinos,
lobbying companies for big companies like MGM Mirage, Las Vegas Sands,
and Harrah’s Entertainment may be fighting for
