In the State of New York rules pertaining to slot
machines are drafted by the State Liquor Authority. Unfortunately the
State Liquor Authority is being a touch unclear about the legality of a
new machine that is very similar to slot machines. After approving the
game as a game of skill, the State Liquor Authority has changed their
minds.
Two out of three of the commissioners on that make
up the State Liquor Authority voted against the machine, overturning the
original ruling. The claim the manufactures misrepresented the game
when they called a game of skill, it is just too much like slot
machines.
Noreen Healy and Jeanine Green, the two commissioners opposing the new
slots like game, have not yet fully explained their ruling but say they
will elaborate in written form. For know it is known that the two
commissioners feel the game is closer to the family of slot machines as
the game is based on more luck than skill.
Chairman Daniel B. Boyle, the third chairman, did
not exactly vote in favor of the machines but said he did not have
enough information to make a decision. There has not yet been a
response from the Pace-O-Matic Corp., owners of Moxie Mania; the game in
question.
Moxie Mania has already been installed in over 300 bars all across New
York after being approved by the State Liquor Authority. Now that the
State Liquor Authority have overturned their own ruling it is likely the
games will have to be removed.
