UK Online Casinos Prosper
Online casinos still seem to be increasing in popularity.
Unlike many of the claims from opponents of online casinos, there is significant
evidence to back up the claim. The United Kingdom Gambling Commission has
reported statistics that show an increase in the people that prefer to do their
gambling at online casinos or at other Internet based gambling sites.
When the same survey was distributed last year by the
United Kingdom Gambling Commission only 7.8 percent of respondents claimed to
prefer gambling at online casinos; as opposed to brick and mortar venues. This
year that percentage increased to 8.2 percent. Of course an increase of .4
percent is not huge, but it does show the steady shift away from land based
gambling toward Internet gambling sites like online casinos.
“Fifty years ago, land based casino gambling was the only
way for people to enjoy any leisurely gaming,” said observer Barry Freedland.
“But now, overwhelmingly people are shifting their gambling
habits from land based casinos to the Internet.”
The United Kingdom is by no means the only country where
membership at online casinos is on the rise. The United Kingdom is among the
first countries to regulate and legalize online casinos, yet there may still be
more online gamblers found in the United States and that number is still on a
steady increase; and online gambling is currently banned in the United States.
During the United Kingdom Gambling Commission surveys,
each quarter 2,000 people are asked to answer questions about their gambling
habits.
