Regulation and Legalization
Perhaps the best out come for Internet gambling is
that online casinos are regulated on a federal basis but legalized on a
state to state basis. There is no question that the industry needs
tough regulations in place to protect consumers from those online
casinos that are not completely on the up and up. However, within the
United States, there are quite a few state that do not believe gambling
is right for their citizens. When considering the 50 states that make
up the United States, it is sometimes like dealing with 50 different
nations.
But, there are some states that have an
overwhelming amount of legalized gambling available yet still choose to
protest online casinos. Whether these local governments will admit to
it or not, it is pretty clear they are attempting to protect their piece
of the gambling pie by not giving online casinos a fair chance to
compete.
There are a few some voices in Oklahoma that are
protesting online casinos. Like, everyone that opposes online casinos,
they believe online casinos will be too much for problem gamblers to
handle and will lead to a spike in gambling addiction and more families
declaring bankruptcies.
The only problem is the Okalahoma is already
saturated in gambling offerings. Legal gambling in Oklahoma included a
state lottery, over 80 tribal casinos, and two racetrack casinos.
The online casino legalization process in the
United States should work more like the process in the Europe. If a
government does not want gambling in their territory they should not be
forced to offer online casinos. But if gambling is already offered in
the state, it should be seen as an act of protectionism to deny access
to online casinos.
