Reason Against Regulation

Very recently Poker Daily News landed a sit down with Chad Hills.  Hills is the spokesperson for Focus on the Family for all things gambling and has been very vocal against online casinos.  The interview proved to be very insightful as to what exactly the conservative Christian organization has against online casinos and how little fact comes into play in their opinions about the Internet gambling industry.

Online casinos are a multibillion dollar industry that whether people like it or not is hear to stay.  Most experts agree that regardless of whether one supports online casinos or opposes them, regulation is the best way to protect consumers against exploitation.  Regulation significantly reduces the number on predatory and unethical online casinos to which players are exposed.

When asked what he thought about regulation, Hills turned this reasoning upside down and on its head.

“We’ve been doing a lot of research on countries conducting legal internet gambling and can pull up three to eight different headlines almost every day where one of them is being hit up for corruption or being investigated,” said Hills.

“I haven’t seen a system yet that is childproof. I haven’t seen a system that can stop white collar crime from going on.”

What Hills fails to acknowledge is that even though regulation, like with any industry, may be imperfect, the complete lack of regulation means all of these evils he is concerned about will go completely unchecked.  Prohibition has never been the answer to a goods or service that people are insistent upon.
