All over the United States and the world, to be perfectly honest, the
horse racing industry is dwindling. In order to save horse racing many
politicians and venue owners are turning to slot machines. However, it
is well known that that is not the route Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear
chose to pursue. When he saw horse racing revenues dropping of more and
more each year, he decided to place the blame on online casinos and the
rest of the Internet gambling industry.
This is the reason he came up with an elaborate scheme to seize the
domain names of 141 online casinos as if they were gambling devices and
not international web based businesses. A true story, although it may
seem like the plotting of a super villain.
Now Beshear may live to see his worst nightmare come true. This
Saturday, the Kentucky Derby is set to be run. The Kentucky Derby is the
most important event in all of the Kentucky gambling industry.
Unfortunately for Beshear, the forecast for this Saturday is rain. This
bad news for Kentucky may prove to be great news for online casinos and
online gambling as many residents in Kentucky may choose to wager on the
race from the dryness of their home.
Beshear’s plan almost succeeded last year. A lower court judged
approved the seizure of the online casino domain names, but it was not
long before that ruling was overturned by a Court of Appeals in a case
versus the Interactive Media Entertainment and Gaming Association.
