Focus on the Family, the social conservative organization that has
been very vocal about its opposition to online casinos, has mostly
attempted to dissuade support for online casinos with fears. In an
interview with Poker New Daily, Chad Hills, gambling analyst for Focus
on the Family, disclosed what exactly the group is so afraid of.
According to Hills, gambling only has one inevitable effect on
communities; a downward economic spiral and a resulting lack of moral
judgment. Statistics indicate that there are approximately 15 million
people in the United States that are considered compulsive gamblers. It
is the belief of Hills and Focus on the Family that the gambling
industry exists only to feed off of the weakness of these people and
drain them for every penny they have without compassion.
Hill also claims that gambling addiction often leads to bankruptcy,
and once a person is financially ruined all bet are off on how they
choose to go about accessing money. In increase in crime is believed to
be the resulting outcome.
When it comes to online casinos, Hills believes this takes an already
serious problem and exacerbates it. Online casinos not only offers 24
hour a day access to gambling activities, Hills is also concerned that
players also have the ability to be at several online casinos in once.
According to Hills a combination of all these features bared by
online casinos, makes them an incredibly dangerous threat to families.
Hills believes online casinos create a “perfect storm for gambling
addiction.”
