Not every story that comes out of online casinos is
a success story. In truth, most are not, but that is just the nature of
gambling and the house edge. But when a success story or a story of a
hitting a major jackpot does surface, it is enough to inspire every
gambler that is already on line trying to try a little harder; at least
to keep the dream alive.
The popular game Mega Moolah, produced by the
world’s leading software provider for online casinos Microgaming, paid
out an incredible jackpot worth $6.3 million. The details of the winner
have not yet been released by the online casino, but one thing is for
sure, the gambler was not an American.
The disappointing certainty that the player is not
from the United States comes from Microgaming online casinos no longer
accepting wagers from American players. After the Unlawful Internet
Gambling Enforcement Act was passed back in 2006 several online casinos
fled the United States gambling market fearing prosecution. Microgaming
hung in there for quite a while, but when the Department of Justice
decided to implement the law in the last days of the Bush
Administration, Microgaming finally bailed.
Perhaps big time jackpots like the $6.3 million won
this past weekend will be inspiring to the United States. Legislation
to regulate and legalize online casinos is already on the table. Barney
Frank has introduced the bill in hopes of defending the personal freedom
of American citizens, he also recognizes that taking a multibillion
dollar industry like online gambling could do wonders for the United
State economy.
