After the 2008 election season, the Republican Party was left in
shambles. Sure the successful historic campaign of Barack Obama had
something to do with it, with his unmatched ability to appear relevant
and in touch with the needs and wants of the American people. But more
than any other cause, the Republicans need only blame themselves. To
this day, several months after the election, the Grand Old Party cannot
seem to get on board with a coherent message and maintains the
appearance of a party desperately seeking relevance.
Opposition to online casinos is just one example of how far from
their base the party as strayed. The Party of Lincoln once stood by
personal responsibility and creating new streams of tax revenue as a
basic principle belief. Now it seems that the party has fallen to
appeasing the whims of religious extremists.
It seems at one point in time, the Republican Party, a stronger,
cohesive, more formidable Republican Party would have welcomed the
legalization and regulation of online casinos. Online casinos would
pump billions of dollars into the ailing economy.
A vote for online casinos would be a return to the party’s old pro
business and anti government interference roots. At one time it would
have been expected, seeing the enormous and business potential of
legalized online casinos, that the Republican party would have been the
front runners for regulating this new industry.
However, it is the Democratic Congressman from Massachusetts that is
out their waiving the banner of online casinos. Barney Frank is usually
considered an extreme liberal is, in this case, standing further right
than the right wingers.
