By introducing a bill that will regulate online casinos in the United
States, Representative Barney Frank has done a lot to protect the rights
of online casino operators. Franks real battle lies ahead as he
campaigns for votes to get the law passed.
In the meantime, there is another organization already waist deep in
the battle to defend the right of online casinos to compete fairly in
the world gambling market, that is the Interactive Media Entertainment
and Gaming Association. iMEGA is currently embroiled in two major court
cases that may determine the future of online casinos and online
gambling; one in Kentucky and one in Minnesota.
The case in Kentucky has been going on for some time now and iMEGA is
gearing up for a Supreme Court appearance. The case started when a
Circuit Court Judged granted permission to the Kentucky Governor Steve
Beshear to seize the domain name of 141 online casinos as if they were
gambling devices operating in the state. iMEGA was successful in having
the decision overturned in a court of appeals. Now it is time for round
two and iMEGA Chairman Joe Brennan seems optimistic.
“In our mind, they’ve broken no new ground,” said Brennan of the case
being built by the Kentucky attorneys.
“They haven’t strengthened their case at all. They are falling back
on same arguments that were unsuccessful at the appellate level: We are
bad people, we don’t deserve to be here, and sites don’t deserve to be
represented by groups like iMEGA, which is simply an illegal internet
gambling association.”
