There are at least two sides to every argument. Online casinos have
no doubt created a divide in the country, especially as signs point
toward regulation in the near future. Unfortunately for the dissenting
opinion, many of the loudest voices voicing their point of view are
coming from unfounded places. Professor John Kindt, Professor Earl
Gringols, and Reverend James Dobson, all opposed to regulating online
casinos, have been known to spout a few argument that are sometimes
little more than out and out lies.
Kindt is a business professor from Illinois and his title lends him
some credibility on economic issues. He believes that online casinos,
much like other gaming venues in the gambling industry will wreak havoc
on the economy.
“It creates no products or new jobs, so we need to get rid of
gambling to pump-prime the economy,” said Kindt.
However, despite all of Kindt’s credibility there are a wealth of
examples in the gambling industry that disprove his theory. The MGM
Mirage City Center, for example will single handedly create 12,000 new
jobs in Nevada. Not only that, but the paychecks that it provides for
its employees will create positive ripples throughout the states
economy.
The facts coming out of Professor Grinols mouth are no more founded
than the ones spouted by his colleague. According to Grinols gambling
venues cause crime to sky rocket in the neighborhoods in which they are
established. However there are examples in his own state that do not
coincide. For two years in a row, Hallandale has seen a steady decrease
in the crime rate since the local racetrack started carrying slot
machines.
