That seems to be the theme song of Arizona Senator Jon
Kyl, perhaps the only man in America willing to publicly support the
notorious UIGEA. The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act was
sneakily passed by the US government to strangle online casinos in the
US. While political figures from both sides of the aisle are determined
to repeal the unfavorable act, Senator Kyl is trying to figure out why
the bill does not work.
Kyl has taken to pointing fingers, particularly at
the Federal Reserve for not enacting a program more swiftly. Although
testimony after testimony to the Federal Service Committee from several
government officials tells him other wise, Kyl seems to want to believe
that slow moving government agencies are the only difficulty in banning
online casinos in the United States.
Ron Paul and Barney Frank recently introduced a bill supporting the
regulation of online casinos. Kyl considers such attempts a rise of
House legislation against the UIGEA. He attributes the new online
gambling regulation bill to the executive branch’s inability to quickly
establish regulations.
Most experts oppose Kyl and the Federal Government on the issue of
online casinos. They believe that the UIGEA suffers a horrible lack of
clarity and that stopping online gambling is almost impossible. Many
experts do not believe online casinos and online gambling should be
stopped. Although Kyl purports to be protecting problem gamblers, the
very same group will be sure to feed their habit at the thousands of
legal land based casinos across the nation.
More and more public support seems to stand behind the Paul-Barney
regulation bill and Kyl will eventually have to face the truth. In the
meantime, he can spend his energies delaying the inevitable, but he will
have quite a challenge convincing law enforcement to spend the revenues
and man hours necessary to prosecute poorly written laws that are soon
to be repealed.
