When it rains it not only pours on unlucky lottery winner Paul
Kusznirewicz, the heavens seem to laugh at him as well. Slot machines
do not malfunction often, but when they do it’s a serious problem for
everyone involved. Many people would like to think that when slot
machines malfunction they will perhaps spit out an endless number of
coins onto the floor of the casino sending everyone into a craze…Kusznirewicz
was not that lucky.
While playing on of the many 2-cent slot machines at Georgian Downs
in Canada, Kusznirewicz had a life altering moment. Twenty minutes in
to game play, lights and music blast out of the slot machine and a
display alerts him that he has one $42.9 million dollars. Great! The
only problem is that particular slot machine is only programmed to pay
out a maximum of $9,025.
After he alerted casino personnel of his win, attendants arrived to
investigate the slot machine. They told Kusznirewicz that the game had
malfunctioned and that he was not entitled to any winnings whatsoever.
In defense of the casino, all Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp slot
machines have a display that informs player that malfunctions of the
slot machines void all pays and plays.
However, it is understandable that postings and warnings of this
nature mean nothing for Kusznirewicz who undoubtedly feels entitled to
some sort of compensation, he is not even getting the $9,025. He is
currently taking the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp to court. Perhaps
he should get some compensation, at least for the emotional roller
coaster that he was subject to.
