In many countries across the globe online casinos
are still considered illegal. One certainly does not have to look far,
especially if you live in the United States. The Unlawful Internet
Gambling Enforcement Act does not technically outlaw online casinos but
it certainly makes it difficult for online casinos to cater to an
American customer base.
While the Untied States Justice Departments is
spending tax payer money on court cases to persecute online casinos and
other governments spend millions on methods to track illegal online
gambling sites, these very same governments could be filling their
coffers by taxing an extremely successful international industry. Not
only that they could be protecting consumers.
From a business point of view, a very important
point of view as governments across the world are looking for new says
to get money moving and cut spending, outlawing online casinos does not
make much sense. Online casinos are a multi billion dollar industry
that if legalized and taxed could bring in no less than millions to
government coffers each year.
If there ever was a time to legalize online casinos
it is now. Government on a federal level, local level and everything in
between are suffering enormous budget deficits. Business after business
is faltering under the failing economy. Despite all this, online
casinos continue to thrive. Online casinos are one of the few lucky
industries that ended 2008 with their books in the black.
The British government is an excellent model. A
few years back they decided to regulate and takes the online gambling
industry and reap the benefits of a booming industry today.
