Many feel that at this point, with building
pressure from the recession and international trade partners, it is no
longer a matter of if online casinos will be regulated its more a
question of when. There is, however, a big question mark on what
particular regulations will be imposed on licensed online casinos. Even
matters that seem to have an obvious answer may be a little tricky when
dealing with the international Internet gambling community.
The issue of age seems to be up for debate.
Although many casinos in the United States have a legal age requirement
of 21, that is far from being a universal standard. In many states, age
requirements differ depending on the game. In some state in order to
play poker and bingo gamblers only need to be 18 years old. States like
Oklahoma permit full access to all gambling activities at the age of 18;
same goes for many cruise ships.
Answers are not any clearer in the already
established world of online casinos. Online casinos go back and forth
between a requirement age of 18 and 21; it usually depends on the laws
of the nation from which the online casinos operate.
Legal gambling age is an issue that has received a
lot of attention of late, regardless of whether it is at a brick and
mortar casino or at online casinos. Two well establish gambling states
are currently attempting to change legislation with regards to gambling
ages. Florida has already lowered the gambling age to 18 in an effort
to compete with online casinos and to increase revenues at brick and
mortar casinos. Las Vegas has not changed the age limit, but is
recently reviewed legislation that would do just that before deciding
against it.
