Online Casinos Fight For Air in Argentina
In most countries around the world, gambling is not
illegal. As a matter of fact, gambling and casinos are often federally
regulated. It seems overtly hypocritical that online casinos should continue to
meet such resistance.
The Argentinean newspaper El Cronista reports that the
nation’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has received orders to shut down online
casinos bwin.com.ar. Judge Maria Fernanda Botana is responsible for the order.
Judge Botana says the owners of the site, based in Austria,
are in violation of Argentina’s advertising laws for online casinos. The
company has advertised their online casino extensively in Argentine media
without the proper permission.
Lead prosecutor Martin Lapadu has also revealed that investigation into two
other companies related to online casinos that provided payment options for the
Argentine website.
“Once it is closed, the webpage will not be operational,” said Lapadu.
“The page does not have the proper authorization either of the National
Lottery nor the Gambling Institute of the City.”
Lapadu state that the site operated by Bwin Argentina SA must “obtain the
necessary authorization to keep on operating and change its legal situation.”
It appears that Argentina is not against online casinos. The country just
has a way in which they would prefer online casinos would conduct business.
That is fair enough.
