Online casinos seem to be getting lost in the wave
of panic and crashing economies. Though many believe that Barack Obama
is the perfect president to overturn the Unlawful Internet Gambling
Enforcement Act, it is not likely that a bill related to online casinos
will ever cross his desk. There is just too much on his plate.
The one lobbying group that has the best chances of
passing some sort of agenda for online casinos is riding the fence. The
American Gaming Association can not get a unified policy toward online
casinos so they are useless to the cause.
Some members of the American Gaming Association are
in strong support of legalizing online casinos and may more forward with
lobbying efforts despite their disjointed association. Harrah’s was
quick to recognize the revenue potential of online casinos and has
chosen to push for regulation during the 111th Congress.
Oddly enough they are alone in the effort as of know. With revenues
dropping each month as the country slips further and further in to
economic recession, it is strange that more brick and mortar casinos are
not pushing to legal Internet gambling.
The industry got very excited when CEO of the American Gaming
Association, Frank Fahrenkopf, announced at G2E that his members would
discuss the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act during their
board meeting last December. It appears the excitement was premature.
Yes indeed, Barack Obama may have been the
president that would bring the online casino industry back to the United
States. Perhaps in peaceful times. Unless he can make molehills out
of mountains and quickly, we may never know.
