The world is a scary place, but sometimes things tend to seem just a
little scarier in Russia. Problem gambling and addiction to slot
machines is an old topic. It is not uncommon to hear tales of people
endangering their loved ones to feed this disorder, which scientists are
discovering may be a physiological issue. But, this is usually
something along the lines of a parent gambling away their kids lunch
money or selling the family mini van for coins to pop into slot
machines.
However, a very disturbing story has come out of the Nizhny Novgorod
Region of Russia recently. A 19 year old Russian man literally brought
real danger into his family life. After his grand parents refused to
give him money to feed his addiction to slot machines, the young man
beat them to death.
The elderly couple were both in the 70s when their deranged grandson
took their lives. According to national media, the man then stole over
$1,000 from the deceased couple. Apparently the man had been dealing
with his addiction for quite some time and according to investigators he
had been playing at slot machines in a variety of different arcades “for
a number of years.”
As if a man murdering his grandparents over slot machines was not sad
enough, the killings took place on the first day of the New Year,
January 1, 2009. The scenario is simple, the young man went to his
grandparent for money so that he could return to playing slot machines.
The couple refused. He then took an iron bar and beat them over the
head several times. The elderly couple died from their wounds.
According to the police the accused has already admitted his guilt.
