Bars Risk Illegal Slot Machines
Nebraska continues to experience illegal gambling
in bars all across the state, made evident by the recent seizure of slot
machines in bars located in at three Nebraskan cities. The Nebraska
State Patrol is frustrated.
According to Tim Arnold of the Nebraska State
Patrol, North Platte office, investigators seized five slot machines
from a bar in McCook named the Nebraska Sports Bar & Grill. In
Cambridge, Macke’s Sports Bar & Grill yield two more illegal slot
machines. And finally, two more slot machines were discovered in Grand
Island’s Fonner Keno Casino & Lounge.
However, Mark Young, a Hall County Attorney, said
that not to many people are making a big stink over the gambling
machines found at Fonner Keno Casino & Lounge. According to Young
the games called “Bank Shot” were being tested by the Nebraska
Charitable Gaming Division and they may be legal.
“Nobody has a lot of heartburn over this particular
machine,” said Young.
In defense of his establishment Todd Otto, manager
of Fonner Keno Casino & Lounge made a point of clarifying that the “Bank
Shot” machines found in his business were absolutely legal.
Although there has been some recent buzz about legalizing slot machine
in Nebraska, slot machines are still very much illegal in the state.
However, many bars have risked operating slot machines in their business
because it is an easy and quick way of boosting their revenues. Slot
machines make a lot of money. In addition to that, owners do not report
the profits they receive from their illegal slot machines so they do not
have to pay tax on the revenue.
