Emmy award winning talk show host Montel Williams
may have a hand in legalizing online casinos. No, Williams is not using
his celebrity to run for government office. He is, instead, doing what
he does best, hosting another television show. This new show however,
the International Team Poker League, will involve Internet gambling.
Online casinos and Internet gambling are not exactly illegal in the
United States, but laws like the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement
Act imply that it is.
United States law has been much more lenient of
casino games like poker. There has been an ongoing debate as to whether
poker is a game of skill or chance. Fortunately, more and more
lawmakers seem to be siding with a Pennsylvania Judge who recently ruled
Poker as a game of skill; a great precedent to be established for the
future of online casinos and online poker.
Williams is doing his part by bringing the already
popular past time of gambling at online casinos further into the
spotlight. Part of the new show, which will be operated much like a
reality talent show, involves satellite tournaments like the one made
popular by online casinos. Satellite tournaments will also be held at
brick and mortar venues as well.
After the satellites are completed, the winners
will be transported to Las Vegas to compete at a brick and mortar casino
and grouped into different teams. In order to walk away with the
International Team Poker League championship the teams will compete in a
battle royal styled final table.
