New York Slots Abuse

Opponents of slot machines have often protested their presence because they are believe to attract more crime to areas where they operate.  Not to create an argument that sound sickeningly like the NRA “people kill people line”, but slot machines cannot be blamed for people that use them dishonestly.  There are several credible and decent products that can be perverted and abused by the criminally minded.

The couple from New York that was recently arrested while using slot machines to launder money is a prime example.  The woman used $1 million in stolen money to gamble at Atlantic City in New Jersey.  The money was stolen from her employer.  Money can be laundered in several ways, but this couple chose to cross state lines in order to attempt their criminal activity.

Jamine Alabre, the woman in the case, was sentenced to five years in prison.  Here boyfriend and partner in crime Mathurin Ambroise was sentenced to three years.  Alabre is from Westbury, New York and Ambroise from St. Albans, New York.

Alabre was working at a marketing firm in Long Island.  The couple managed to launder $500,000 of stolen company money between during the months of January and October, back in 2005.  They used slot machines at the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa.  Both pled guilty to charges of receiving stolen property.

The pair was spotted by casino security as placing large amounts of cash into high limit slot machines.  The concerned security then contacted State Police, who made the arrests.
