Card Counting Change

Although slot machines are by far the most popular game at any casino, blackjack is the most popular card table game and its been that way since at least the 1960s.  When player’s found out that skilled card counting could beat blackjack, the game received a huge boost in popularity.

Everyone and their brother came out of the woodwork hoping to use their newly acquired card count skills to make their millions off of playing blackjack.  In truth, of the tens of millions of blackjack players out there only a few thousand ever mastered card counting well enough to make it a useful skill.  Slot machines are games of random chance, there are no real strategies or skill sets to improve your chances, although many new video slot machines come with skill based bonus rounds.

As expected, during the first wave of the card counting revolution, casinos panicked.  From there blackjack changed dramatically on the casino floors.  Several elements were added to the game to make it more difficult and far less attractive, such as the addition of several decks to the game.

Soon, less and less players were playing blackjack and more and more where visiting other games, like good old slot machines.  Casinos were forced to restore the old face of blackjack by bringing back things like single and double deck games.  The reversion back to the old rule became necessary as casino operator began to notice that a once loved game became so low in attendance that serious consideration had to be made as to whether or not it should be removed from the casino floor completely; more room for high revenue grossing slot machines.
