Minnesota may become the newest state to bring in
slot machines for the particular purpose of helping the state government
through the awful recession currently dragging down the economy. Slot
machines have been proposed and even legalized in many states within the
past few months. Although slot machines can be a very controversial
topic when government decide to introduce them to a community, there is
now question that slot machines certainly raise a great deal of taxable
revenue.
The man leading the slot machine push in Minnesota
is Senator Chuck Wiger. Wiger believes that the state could benefit
from up to $1 billion in revenues each year with slot machines spinning
a local bars and the airport. In the past, gambling establishment have
seen a spike in gambling activity during tough economic times. It
appears that many people try gambling when times are tough in hopes of
striking it lucky.
Senator Wiger is a lawmaker from North St Paul,
Minnesota. On Monday, Wiger intends to propose his bill that would
allow video slot machines in the 3,200 bars all across the state as well
as in the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. The airport may
prove profitable as most travelers have disposable cash and many have
time to kill while waiting for delayed flights.
Wiger intends to use slot machine revenue to fund
veteran assistance and for the state school system. As a part of his
new bill, a college scholarship fund will be started in order to help
students with a B average and above pay for higher education.
