Take Baltimore for a Spin
Maryland has yet to get slot machines on their feet in the state, but
there are some that see potential for new gambling venues. A new bill
from a group of legislators is trying to push for 3,000 slot machines in
the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. Most
of the lawmakers are from Baltimore.
So far Maryland is having problems getting the handful of parlors
already planned off the ground as some bidders have neglected to pay the
full fees for the slot machines they have requested. If the airport is
added to the list slot machine venues, the state maximum for slots
parlors would now be up to six.
Sponsoring the bill in Baltimore County Democrat, Del. Eric Bromwell
and ten other co-sponsors from Baltimore and Harford counties. The BWI
airport is located in Anne Arundel County.
As of now the bill is not going anywhere fast. It was introduced on
February 11, 2009 and there has yet to be a hearing set for it. The
bill calling for slot machines in BWI is called House Bill 777.
It is possible that a bill for slot machines in the airport is a
little premature. There are still those without warm feelings about
slot machines. The slot machines that were legalized this past November
are off to a rocky start. Both bid for parlors at Laurel Park Racetrack
and Rocky Gap State Park were tossed out by the review panel for lack of
funds.
The new bill would bring a maximum of 3,000 slot machines into BWI.
