Cigarettes Sell Slot Machines
Slot machines and cigarettes seem to have intertwined destinies. The
theory that many players prefer to play slot machines at online casinos
because it means they do not have to be subjected to smoky casino halls
may not have a leg to stand on.
According to a study in Pennsylvania, a state newly received slot
machines only a few years ago, slot machines operating in sections that
still permit indoor smoking are performing a lot better than the slot
machines found in none smoking parlors. The study took a look at
numbers from over the last three month.
The numbers were released last week by the Pennsylvania Gaming
Control Board. Because of the study, the seven parlors in the state
operating slot machines have permission to double the size of their
smoking sections.
Depending on the casino of course, slot machines in smoking sections
out performed slot machines in non smoking sections drastically by 60 to
120 percent. Apparently there are a lot of gamblers out there that like
to take a few drags to cool their nerves while yanking on the one armed
bandit.
Pennsylvania has banned smoking in most public places. But an new
law in the state allows casinos about a quarter of their space to permit
smokers to light up. There are still many gamblers that feel like
gambling can be unhealthy enough with out breathing second hand smoke
from hundreds of patrons.
The new laws did not take effect until September of 2008. Casinos
were given permission to expand their smoking sections if three months
worth of revenue records showed an overwhelming demand for smoking
sections.
