Milton McGregor is determined to bring some sort of electronic
gambling to the Birmingham Race Course if not actual slot machines. The
new electronic gambling devices that he has brought to the track is seen
by many as an underhanded attempt to get slot machines spinning at his
venue.
McGregor will stop at nothing to get Las Vegas style gambling through
the doors of the Birmingham Race Course. The ambitious McGregor has
tried and failed going the route of passing legislation that would
change the Alabama constitution. He has also tried the Internet
sweepstakes, but the Alabama Supreme Court was not having it.
Now McGregor has introduced the Instant Racing console. Despite the
fact that the games look a lot like slot machines, they were recently
approved for operation by the Birmingham Racing Commission. Critics see
the game as being too similar to the Instant sweepstakes for comfort.
Instant racing does not operate on reels and paylines like slot
machines do but many feel like the games are just as random. Instant
racing allows players to bet on footage of old horse races. Players are
given a little bit of handicapping information, but they do not really
have any idea what race they are about to watch making the process
almost completely random. The packaging of the gaming console looks and
sounds a lot like slot machines.
Milton McGregor has no shame about his ambition to save his dwindling
dog racing track. He will bring money back into the venue with or
without slot machines.
