The Meadows Racetrack & Casino will be something to behold when it
finally reopens in 2009. The fact that it will hold about one fifth of
the slot machines in the entire state of Pennsylvania is only the first
of several very impressive features promised upon reopening.
The gambling floor alone is incredible. Although it is only
partially completed at this stage, the gaming floor is almost equivalent
to the length of two football fields. That is enough space to fit no
less than 4,000 slot machines with room to spare. That extra room is
being reserved and will hopefully be occupied by table games in the
future. Pennsylvania Legislature have not they legalized table games,
but many feel that it will once slot machines have really been given a
solid test run in the state.
According to general manager of the Meadows Racetrack, Mike Graninger,
with 4,000 slot machines the gaming floor can still accommodate 40 table
games. The lower level of is intended to showcase 50 poker tables.
Harness racing will still be featured at the track. Patrons will
have an unobstructed view of the track through a giant window that runs
the length of the building.
For patrons that have no interest in table games, slot machines, or
harness racing, a 24 lane bowling alley is also being built on the
premises. Such features are sure to transform the Meadows in to a
legitimate entertainment venue. However it still remains to be seen as
to whether Pennsylvania will actually legalize table games.
