Illegal Malaysian Slot Machines
Slot machines are money makers. The legendary ‘one
armed bandit’ has been used to raise funds by casinos, online casinos,
governments, bars, and even fraternal organizations. People are drawn
to slot machines because of their simplicity and low skill
requirements. Businesses are drawn to slot machines because of their
ability to quickly amass large sums of money.
Unfortunately, slot machines are so sought after
that people will operate them even if it is against local law. Every
year police across the world uncover illegal slot machines, possibly
more than other gambling device.
Malaysia was the seen of a recent large scale
illegal slot machine bust. Sentul district police seized a total of
2,085 illegal slot machines worth RM 5.2 million. The name of the
special operation that led to the seizure was Ops Dadu. The mission
spanned almost all year from January until its recent end this month.
According to Senutl Deputy OCPD, Supt. Zainuddin
Ahmad, 248 people were arrested in connection with the illegal slot
machines. Many of the arrested were foreigners between the ages of 20
and 35.
“We have requested Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) to cut off power supply
to 116 premises which were suspected of carrying out the illegal
activities, using the provisions stated under Section 21 (a) of the
Electricity Supply Act 1990,” said Ahmad.
Police are still investigating in search of more
concrete evidence to bring against the defenders. Six cases have
already been taken to court. Greed will drive people to desperate
actions.
