It is really very silly when you think about it;
the idea that horse racing tracks need to be protected from online
casinos. There are many people in the horse racing business that believe
that if online casinos are allowed to operate in states that offer
traditional horse race wagering that patrons will be to glued to the
computer screen to get out of the house and enjoy a good horse race. At
the core, this is the very argument being posed by Governor Steve
Beshear in Kentucky as he threatens to seize the domain name of 141
online casinos unless they bar access to Kentucky residents.
Unfortunately for Beshear and the rest of the figure
heads leading the witch hunt against online casinos, there is evidence
out their to the contrary. Some evidence supports the reality that in a
well managed racing industry, race tracks not only survive the draw of
online casinos, but flourish in spite of it. It seems harsh to say, but
online casinos may not be as much as a problem to many tracks as lack of
vision and failure to keep their venues modern and appealing to today’s
gamblers.
Louisiana is an example of a state that has no reason to fear online
casinos and no reason to blame its woes on online casinos, mainly
because the tracks in the state have no woes of which to complain. Slot
machines at Louisiana tracks provide revenue to fatten pursues and draw
the big races. Slot machines and racinos also provide the support
needed by the breeding industry.
