“All I want for Christmas is Regulation in the
United States,” said the little online casino to the United States
Congress. It would only make sense for online casinos, an already well
established industry internationally, would be legalized and regulated
in the United States. All that is need now is for the majority online
casino friendly Congress to introduce and pass a bill making the dream
of all little online casinos come true.
The Bush administration has not been very friendly
to online casinos. The Bush years have seen disasters like the Unlawful
Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, a virtually unenforceable bill that
succeeded in scaring most reputable online casinos away from the United
States market.
After the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement
Act was passed back in 2006, two years later came the lame
implementation during the lame duck session. Again the vague and
hurried law received vague and hurried implementation that only succeed
in spreading fear, a tactic the Bush administration has mastered.
On a state level, there were embarrassments like
the Kentucky nightmare, were a governor attempted to seize the domain
name of 141 online casinos if they did not block Kentucky residents.
This over step of power lead to US players losing Microgaming online
casinos.
However, Santa brought the gift of hope a few week
early in November when Barack Obama was elected the next president.
Obama is not clearly pro online casinos, but he is not apart of the
Republican Party that included anti online casino language in their
party platform. There is also the promise of the largely democratic
Congress and the floating of bills aimed at overturning the Unlawful
Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.
