Rockingham Back to Basics
Rockingham Park in New Hampshire would like to reunite its racing
venue with thoroughbred racing. In order to do that the track must
first find a unity between slot machines and the state of New
Hampshire. The track currently only offers betting on harness races
that are simulcast from other tracks. Slot machines would give the
track the ability to compete with other, more popular, racing venues in
the United States.
According to the President of Rockingham Park, Ed Callahan, track’s
charity gaming operation will receive no changes. Rockingham Park has
collected funds for charities by offering traditional casino table games
like craps, roulette, blackjack, and Texas Hold’em.
Chuck Rolecek is chair of ‘Fix It Now New Hampshire’, a group of slot
machine proponents in the state. Rolecek nor only lobbies for slot
machines, but he is also the CEO and President of The Premier Company.
The group is focused on getting slot machines into to Rockingham Park
and has said they will leave it up to lawmakers as to whether slot
machines should be placed in other venues in the state.
Proponents of expanding gambling in New Hampshire have several
reasons to move forward. According to state Senator, Chuck Morse,
gambling revenues are currently leaking from the state and slot machines
may be one strong way of bringing those dollars back.
“New Hampshire is letting millions of dollars in revenue migrate to
other states when it is perfectly positioned to compete for and attract
that revenue,” said Morse.
