As country after country regulates online casinos
and legislators in the United States call for the domestic legalization
of Internet gambling is appears beyond likely that a legal market for
online casinos will soon return to the United States. Harrah’s
Entertainment, one of Las Vegas’ most influential casino operators is
making preparations for the inevitable invasion of online casinos.
While brick and mortar casinos continues to enjoy
fewer and few revenue gains, the online casinos industry not only
remains profitable but its global market seems to get bigger and bigger
almost everyday with countries on every continent passing legalization
and regulation legislation.
Harrah’s Entertainment has shown how serious they
take online casinos by hiring Mitch Garber, the former CEO of
PartyGaming to head up the developmental division of the Harrah’s
Entertainment online department. In Garber, Harrah’s has access to one
of the top minds in online casinos. PartyGaming is without question one
of the most successful businesses in the short history of online
casinos. PartyGaming once held an overwhelmingly dominant share of the
online poker market.
It is not exactly clear what the Harrah’s
Entertainment strategy will be with regards to online casinos, but there
is a possibility that they are keeping their sites focused on online
poker first. CEO of Harrah’s Entertainment Gary Loveman is a firm
believer that online poker will be regulated before full on online
casinos. This is a reasonable bet as several court cases in recent
history have established poker as a game of skill. In addition the
World Series of Poker seems to be enjoying mounting popularity.
