Virtually every game found in casinos have die hard fans, but nothing
racks of the dollars like slot machines. That is abundantly clear to
the Navajo Nation. Only four months after the grand open of their Fire
Rock Navajo Casino, casino operators have used a portion of their bingo
hall to expand the amount of slot machines offered on the gaming floor.
When the casino opened Fire Rock Navajo Casino had 546 slot machines
on their gaming floor. The expansion was not huge, but gaming officials
did allow the tribe to bring in 135 new slot machines bringing their
total up to 681 slot machines. The do not carry enough to rival casino
is Vegas, typically offering thousands of slot machines per venue, but
even 135 slot machines are worth their weight in gold.
This is certainly true for the Navajo Nation. When the casino opened
back in November, near Gallup, New Mexico, lines of patrons formed; all
waiting for a chance to try their luck on the slot machines. Now,
nearly 6 month later, those lines are still forming. The new slot
machines ought to alleviate some of the wait and help the casino keep
their still developing customer base.
“We just don’t want our guests to be waiting in lines. The number has
gone up, so we decided to buy new games,” explained Robert Winter, chief
executive of the Navajo Nation Gaming Enterprise.
“We don’t want our guests to go elsewhere.”
The Fire Rock Navajo Casino is a great addition to the Navajo
Nation. Of the 310 workers employed at the casino, 90 percent are
Navajo. The casino revenues are estimated to generate $32 million each
year; that makes up nearly one fifth of the tribe’s annual budget.
