Europe Has Eyes on US Online Casinos
Europe has high hopes for online casinos in the United States. A lot
has changed in the online gambling industry and the world markets since
the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act went into affect back in
2006; changes that make it more and more likely that a legal market for
online casinos will soon emerge in the United States once more.
Prior to the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, large,
publicly traded European companies controlled online casinos and the
online gambling market, companies such as PartyGaming. Now, however,
more control of the skyrocketing industry has shifted into the hands of
private operators found on offshore hotspots like Isle of Man and
Antigua.
Although it has yet to happen, there is still talk that Barney Frank
will be introducing a bill that will overturn the Unlawful Internet
Gambling Enforcement Act and regulate online casinos in the United
States. This news has the big online casino operators in Europe excited
about a chance to once again take control of a large share of the
market.
“There’s still a lot of gambling going on, where there’s no revenue
coming in to the governments,” said Gavin Kelleher, an H2 Gambling
Capital research analyst from Ireland.
“They realize they could use the revenue.”
Back in 2007, Frank made a similar attempt to regulate online casinos
in the United States. Now, however, Washington presents a much
friendlier environment toward that sort of legislation. Conservatives,
are no longer in control of White House and have not control the
Congress for some time now.
