The gambling industry, brick and mortar casinos and online casinos
alike, are convinced that regulation of online casinos in the United
States is just around the corner. Although it has yet to happen,
industry analyst believe it is only a matter of days now before Chairman
of the House Financial Services Committee Representative Barney Frank
introduces legislation that will legalize online casinos in the United
States.
There are a few organizations in the country that think people are
getting a little ahead of themselves, at least if they have anything to
do with it. Both the Christian Coalition and the National Football
League are still major opponents of regulating online casinos. Both
have their different reasons. The Christian Coalitions is most
concerned about the family and what such easy exposure to online casinos
will do to emotional and financial stability.
“We’re not saying people shouldn’t go to Las Vegas,” said Michele
Combs, spokeswoman for the Christian Coalition
“But when it’s in your home, it’s too easy. It breaks up families.”
According to Combs the Christian Coalition is preparing to launch a
massive campaign against regulating online casinos. The campaign will
involve a lot of letter writing and extensive lobbying.
The National Football League is worried that online casinos threaten
the integrity of the league. The fear is that changes in gambling laws
will lead to more online gambling and as a result their will be a spike
of fixed matches. Of course critics of this theory do not understand
how legalizing online casinos will have any affect on sports betting
legislation.
