Online Casinos Find an Opening in France
The French have not been so friendly to online casinos in
the past. To the frustration of the global market for online casinos, France
has maintained a monopolistic policy over its gambling activity. Some believe a
change is on the horizon.
Thankfully, the signs of change are that of a positive
change for online casinos. A report says the Sarkozy administration intends to
liberalize online gabling in France by creating a more competitive regulatory
policy.
European Commission officials have already expressed their
distaste for France’s protectionist gambling policies. In addition, the
European Union enforcement body has threatened to take action if France refuses
to open up to fair competition from online casinos in other countries.
It is possible that the ushering in of a new President has
been the reason from Frances new point of view. Either way, France has heard
the warning and is aiming to comply with the European Union’s requirement to
allow free passage of trade and services between countries in the EU.
The European Commission has yet to comment on the potential good news for online
casinos in France. However, head of the Partouche casino group, Patrick
Partouche, is excited about the potential for change. But, he did reason that
the change will probably be slow coming as he is certain that the current French
monopoly Francaise des Jeux will delay the change as long as possible.
