The people that want to put a ban on slot machines are entitled to their opinion, but they have to understand what their opinion would mean for other industries. It must be remembered that slot machines are simply coin operated gaming machines. I know they have this legendary reputation as the home wrecking one-armed bandit, but these games come from the same family as the arcade classic Pac-Man. Which makes me wonder why there are not more people condemning mall arcades.
There is no way you can tell me that slot machines are addictive but video games are not. I knew a lot of kids in my high school that would go to the arcade everyday and spend every last dime they had earned at their part-time jobs playing games like Mortal Kombat. There are kids that would spend every free moment they had honing their skill on that game. I suppose the average arcade game does not make nearly as much money as a slot machine, but I believe that is only because kids do not have nearly as much disposable income as slot machines. Some people would argue that what separates arcade games from video games is that they do not offer multimillion dollar jackpots as a prize, but it has been revealed that slot machine addicts do not really play to win. They just like the feeling of make a wager. Video games use a lot of the same reward based systems as slot machines to encourage people to come back again and again and again.
