Maryland On the Verge

It might feel like a long time but there will be some serious gambling options in Maryland before too long.  Cordish Cos. just received a permit to begin site work on the 4750 slot machine venue that they are bringing to the Arundel Mills mall.  There are currently two slot machine venues operating in Maryland.  The first to open was the Hollywood Casino at Perryville, from Penn National Gaming.  Quickly on its heels came the casino at Ocean downs.  Next in line will be the Cordish Cos. venue.  However, Maryland will have to wait almost the entire year before they can access any of the Cordish Cos. slot machines.  Because the state wanted to expedite the generation of slot machine revenues, the company is building the casino in two phases.  The first phase will be completed by the end of the year.  Before gamblers get to grace the full casino and all 4,750 slot machines, they will have to gamble out of a parking garage.

This is one of those stories that is too good to be true.  The temporary building that will precede the complete casino will be on the ground level of a new parking structure.  The temporary casino will only offer 2,000 slot machines.  Even though that is less than the full number of slot machines that the full venue will have, it is still more than any other venue in the state.  The Hollywood casino in Cecil County, currently the larges casino in the state only has 1,500 slot machines.
