How easy should it be for a person to access vice? If there is one thing that I agree with is that regulation always works better than prohibition. That was proved back in the 20s and 30s with alcohol and it is being proved all over again with the war on drugs. People are strange. More often that people do harm to each other, people do harm to themselves. For some reason we enjoy substances that alter our realities a bit. For some reason gambling has been grouped in with this whole thing. Gambling is not exactly harmful to a person’s physical health the way that alcohol and tobacco are, but in this country going bankrupt is not exactly great for you health either.
However, cigarettes are legal and never have know the other side of the law. I do support the government encouraging people not to do unhealthy things, like when the New York State government continues to up tobacco prices to try and deter people from smoking. Smokers are also less welcome in indoor and outdoor areas.
I just do not know if I agree with the government stepping in to prevent people from gambling. It does not make sense. The United States government loves consumers, why should spending money at a casino be any different from buy a new car or going to an amusement park. I am certain Mickey Mouse can get kids to spend as much money on his image as slot machines can get adults to spend money on trying to get rich quick.
